GREEK REBETIKO ENTERS INTO UNESCO INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE

Greek Rebetiko was declared by UNESCO as one of the intangible Cultural Heritage of the World. It was only declared by UNESCO last December 28, 2017. 

Greek Rebetiko was played first on cafes and on taverns for the poor Greeks and the other Greek Speaking parts of the Ottoman Empire. It was also known as Greek Blues. It was performed in many streets of Greece.
